1. Purpose of the Association
The Cultural Association of Italians at Fermilab (CAIF) is recognized as a Non-for-Profit Association in the State of Illinois (tax payer ID number 36-4076167). The purpose of the Association is to preserve and spread the Italian culture within the local American community. In addition, the Association will help Italian students and professionals to receive advanced scientific training in the USA.
The main activities of the Association are:
– To organize cultural, artistic and musical events with Italian performers;
– To provide training stages in USA to Italian science students and professionals.
– To organize lectures and courses on Italian language and culture.
2. Association address
As authorized by the Fermilab Associate Director for Administration on July 27, 1994, CAIF is hosted at the Fermi National Laboratory of Batavia, IL. The address is:

3. Structure of the Association
The Association comprises: The President, the Directors, the Scientific Secretary, the Administrative Secretary/Treasurer, the Ordinary Members and the Associate Members.
The Directorate runs the association program. It is appointed and chaired by the President. It comprises the Directors, the Scientific Secretary and the Administrative Secretary. The President nominates one or more Directors as Vice-Presidents, who would represent the Association on his behalf. Directorate Members stay in office for 1 year and can be renewed
The President represents the Association and coordinates the program. He/she is elected by the Ordinary Members and stays in office for two years. He/she manages the Association`s funds with the help of the Administrative Secretary. The President has signing authority on the Association account at the CHASE Bank of Warrenville, Illinois (001110607740694) and on the CAIF budget (85.06.09.50) at Fermilab. Should the President resign or cease from office, the Senior Vice-President will assume the Presidency until new elections are held.
The President calls periodical meetings of the Directorate and of the Ordinary Members, as appropriate for reviewing the Association programs, following their progress and making managerial decisions.
The Directors collaborate with the President in running the Association. They may be charged by the President to lead particular projects.
3d Scientific Secretary
The Scientific Secretary has primary responsibility on the cultural programs of the Association. He/she manages the funds allocated to the cultural programs.
Jointly with the President, the Scientific Secretary calls the meetings of the Ordinary Members and records the minutes. In due time, he/she calls the special meeting of the Ordinary Members to elect the President.
3e Administrative Secretary/Treasurer
The Administrative Secretary has primary responsibility on the operation programs of the association. He/she manages the relations with the Ordinary Members, collects the fees and updates the lists of the Ordinary and of the Associated members. With the support of the Administrative Assistant, he/she runs the Association budget.
3f Ordinary Members
The Ordinary Members are Italian friends of the Association aged 18 or older, whose application is accepted by the Directorate. They contribute an annual fee, receive the minutes of the Directorate meetings and are periodically invited to general meetings.
Every two years the Ordinary Members are convened by the Scientific Secretary to elect the President of the Association. The election is made by majority vote of the Members present at the meeting and having at least 6 months membership seniority. Votes are cast publicly.
3g Associate Members
The Directorate may nominate to the status of Associate Members individuals who are interested in the activities of the Association and wish to help.
Associate Members participate as observers to the General Meetings of the Ordinary Members.
The Association is supported by donations, by revenues of its cultural activities and by the annual fees of the Ordinary Members.
5. Directorate Members (year 2017)
In the year 2017 the CAIF Directorate is composed as follows:
President: Giorgio Bellettini, Professor Emeritus of Physics at the University of Pisa, Italy.
Director, Vice-President: Luciano Ristori, Senior Scientist at the Particle Physics Division, Fermilab.
Director, Vice-President: Emanuela Barzi, Principal Engineer at the Technical Division, Fermilab, Adjunct Professor at OSU
Director: Giovanni Maria Piacentino, Associate Professor in Physics, University of Molise
Director: Simone Donati, Associated Professor in Physics, University of Pisa
Scientific Secretary: Donato Passarelli, Design Engineer at the Technical Division, Fermilab
Administrative Secretary/Treasurer: Marco Mambelli, Scientific Computing Engineer at the Computing Division, Fermilab.
6. Termination of activity
After consulting with the Directorate, the President may decide to terminate the activity of the Association. In such a case the available funds on the CAIF accounts will be transferred in fair shares to the accounts of the Italian groups doing research at Fermilab.
7. Amendments to the By-Laws
After consultation with the Directorate, the President can amend yearly the Association bylaws. Ordinary Members will be consulted by expressing a vote in a General Meeting.

The Administrative Assistant to the Administrative Secretary/Treasurer is Dr. Gianni Tassotto, Engineering Physicist of the Fermilab Technical Division. Dr. Tassotto has been given signing authority on the Association account at the CHASE Bank of Warrenville, Illinois, number 001110607740694.
The Ordinary Members fee is $10,00.
